Wat Phrathat Doi Kham


Literally means “Temple of the Golden Mountain” this temple is perched on Doi Kham hill, surrounded by beautiful mountainous landscapes. This ancient temple has more than 1,300 years of history, believed to be built in circa 687 to enshrine Buddha’s relics. Opening hours: 8.00 am-5.00 pm.

Ganesha Himal Museum


Ganesh MuseumGanesh Museum is located at Moo 10, 35th kilometer stone of Chiang Mai-Hod Road, Yang Kram Sub-district, Doi Lo District. It is the first and the only museum in Thailand that collects artifacts and statues of “Ganesh”, the God of Success, Fulfillment, Career, Intellect and Luck and also a remover of obstacles through over 1,000 of forms.The Ganesh Museum Chiang Mai was established by Mr. Pundhorn Teerakanon, a Bangkokian who came to work in Chiang Mai. Influenced by the image of the elephant-headed Hindu god he received from his father when he was 19 years old, Pundhorn has been interested in Ganesh for over 30 years. Since then, he has been collecting the varieties of Ganesh images until in 2002 that he decided to buy 5 Rai land to build “the Ganesh Museum” which is aimed to be the learning center and a place of worship for those who have faith in Ganesh.The first thing the tourists will see after the arrival is the Worship Building, the previous main building of the museum that has now become a room for worship and for organizing demonstration of how to worship Ganesh. This building is the only place in the world that exhibits purely wooden-crafted statues of Ganesh and his family. The next site to visit is the Wate Wittayakom Building, a Thai Sala modeled from the residential Sala of M.R. Keugrit Pramoch. The sala is a place for organizing important Ganesh worshipping ceremony during Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Near the sala, there is the Ganesh Dhevalai, a temple of worship built from Pundhorn’s faith towards Ganesh. Every brick used during the construction has been prayed over and inscribed with prayer before they were formed into this Dhevalai. Moreover, inside, the building simulates “Gana Pati” or the world where Ganesh resides. There are also Hall 1 and 2 which are Hindu Bali style architecture buildings. Hall 2 is where exhibits numbers of Ganesh images in various styles which were collected from places around South East Asia. There are still many more interesting buildings that Ganesh worshipper cannot miss to visit in this museum.Visitors can participate in Ganesh worshipping ceremony every Sunday and in important Ganesh-related days at 10.00 am. Royal Park Rajapruek


After the success of the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, a world-class horticulture expo to celebrate the auspicious occasions of HM King Bhumibol’s 60th anniversary of his accession to the throne and his 80th birthday in 2006-2007, Thai Cabinet decided to maintain the condition of the park as the newest travel destination of Chiang Mai. The Royal Park Ratchaphruek sits in Mae Hia sub-district and covers an area of 240,000 square meters, divided into different zones you need to spend the whole day here. Perched at the center is an authentic Lanna architecture of Ho Kham Luang Royal Pavilion where a painting exhibition about the life and works King Bhumibol is displayed inside. Visitors should not miss to visit the Orchid Garden to see rare orchids and International Gardens to hop into different styles of gardens curated by different participating countries, such as South Korea, China, Japan and Bhutan, to represent their cultures. Ob Khan National Park


Ob Khan National Park is located in Nam Prae sub-district, Hang Dong district in Chiangmai with the area of approximately 484 square kilometers or 302,500 fields covering many districts in Chiangmai province such as Sameng district, Hang Dong district, Mae Wang district and San Pa Tong district. The geographical features of the national park are made of limestone and igneous rock mountains consisting of hill evergreen forest, pine forest, dry evergreen forest, mixed forest and deciduous dipterocarp forest. It is the river source of the Wang River, the Win River and the Kan River. This national park is also the only place in Thailand where Dendrobium Wardianum which blooms in January can be found. To visit the national park, from Chiangmai, take the paved road following irrigation canal (the highway 121) to Hang Dong district around 15 kilometers. Turn right following ARD road, Nam Prae-Ob Khan route, for another 10 kilometers (the road is paved road switched with gravel road which is steep and curved) and you will see the national park office.The first Ob Khan National Park’s popular attraction among tourists is Ob Khan located far from the national park office about 450 meters. Though it is a steep cliff, the size is smaller and its height is approximately 30 meters where the Mae Kan River flows through. The cliff is also appeared in various shapes due to current’s erosion. The next attraction is Huai Ya Sai; the water level is quite shallow, perfect for wading in, there are green swamp rice grass growing and blooming near the shore. Next to the grass about 500 meters, there is a small cliff called Pha Toob; it is a big overhanging rock which is eroded into interesting shape. Huai Ya Sai is around 1 kilometer away from the national park office. Other interesting attractions include Huai Pong which is 2 kilometers away from the office, perfect for going in, Pha Lai, Khun Puai Waterfall, Mae Tien Waterfall, Doi Ton Cave, Mae To hot spring, Morakot Waterfall, Mae Mood Waterfall, Khun Win Waterfall, Mae Wang Waterfall, Tukgataen Cave and other nature trails. Campsites, shops and facilities are available for tourists at Ob Khan National Park but the campsite is closed during 1st May-31st August each year. Thanon Nimmanhaemin


Thanon Nimmanhaemin Thanon Nimmanhaemin (or Nimmanhaemin Road) is located in Tambon Sutep, Amphoe Muang, Chiang Mai. Comparatively, this road bares the resemblance to Sukhumvit in Bangkok. Even the length, and the business size of this road cannot compete with Sukhumvit, the percentage of the road’s luxury and high class shops are similar. A trip in Chiang Mai cannot be complete at all, if the tourists miss the shopping at this road. Thanon Nimmanhaemin is a commercial and entertainment area. It combines a diversity of atmosphere. For 50 years from the past, this road has grown into being one of the most important trade areas in Chiang Mai, where products, service, drinks, and pleasant atmosphere is all provided for the visitors. Especially, Thanon Nimmanhaemin Soi 1, it can best represent the whole Nimmanhaemin Road. Soi1 here can still wholly preserve locals’ uniqueness, culture and traditions of Lanna people. We can see that the Soi is full with grade A shops, which are uniquely embellished in their own styles, such as galleries (e.g. Kong Dee gallery), home decorating stores that hold the most various product ranges (e.g. Mai Mung Ngern shop, and Suriyan-Jantra shop), scented candle shop (e.g. Maew Jai Dee Shop), and cotton handcraft shops, which produce such jubilant works, with a price from 100 baht up until many ten thousands baht. Thanon Nimmanhaemin Soi 9, the coffee road, this Soi is full of many famous coffee shops, the several brands are well-known in local area, within the country, or even imported from overseas. The shops’name are, for example, Va-Vee Coffee shop, 94 Coffee, Starbucks. Right in the front of the Soi, there stands Black Canyon restaurant, Mon Nom Sod, and To and Sod shop. Walking a bit further, the visitor will see Doi Chang coffee shop, Maze Cafe, Doi Tung Coffee shop. These coffee shops are favorite places of teenagers, students, workers, Thai and foreign travellers for many activities; meeting one another, playing internet, having a chitchat, relaxing, reading, and tasting a variety of coffee tastes. It is the perfect place for coffee lovers to browse various coffee shops before making a visit at the one they choose. Moreover, Thanon Nimmanhaemin Road also divides some parts of it as Bakery & Ice-cream route. There are many shops with yummy ice-cream for tourists to choose, such as Mont Blanc, that its owner flied to Japan to specially study how to make desserts in Japanese style.
